TOURNAMENT RULES

2010 Rules

2010 Chaska Chanhassen Brick City Classic - Thanksgiving Tournament Rules

TOURNAMENT GAMES:

All games will be played under USA Hockey Rules, as modified by Minnesota Hockey (formerly MAHA) and the Chaska Chanhassen Hockey Association (CCHA) Tournament Committee.

ROSTERS:

A maximum of (20) players may be on the Tournament Roster and dress for any game.  No more than (4) non-uniformed adults representing the Coach and Assistant Coaches, with the appropriate USA Hockey Certification, may occupy each player’s bench at any one time.  Each team will furnish a roster and starting lineup to the official scorekeeper at least 15-minutes prior to the start of each game.

REPORT TIME:

All teams will report 60-minutes before their first scheduled game and 45-minutes before all succeeding scheduled games.  Teams will receive their locker room assignments and team managers/coaches will complete the game sheets. Teams must be ready to start up to 15-minutes prior to their scheduled game time and/or as the referee calls the players to enter the ice. If not ready as scheduled, the team may be assessed a two minute penalty for delay of game.

CERTIFICATION:

Each team shall provide its own insurance coverage and must provide a proof of coverage at the time of tournament check-in for your first game.  Your officially certified stamped roster by your District Registrar must be presented at the time of check-in for your first game.

HOME TEAM:

The top team on each bracket will be the home team and will wear their light colored jerseys.

The Home Team will provide a minimum of 4 Game Pucks to be used for that game.

REFEREES/OFFICIALS:

All on-Ice Officials will be USA Hockey registered Referees.

MEDICAL:

A certified medical attendant or EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) will be present at all games.

TOURNAMENT COMMITTEE OFFICIALS:

The CCHA will provide Tournament Officials to run the scoreboard and penalty box, only these officials, along with the Referees and Medical staff will be allowed in the scorer’s box and penalty box areas.

GAME TIME:

Squirt C & PeeWee C - games will consist of: A 5-minute warm-up for each game, 12-minute stop time for 3 periods and a 1-minute rest between periods.

Time Outs: Each team will be allowed (1) 30-second time out per game

Running Time: Running time will be used whenever a goal differential of (6) goals occurs anytime after the 6-minute mark of the 2nd Period for Squirt and PeeWee games.  If the goal differential becomes less than (6) goals, stop time will begin again. NOTE, during running time, the clock will stop for injuries, rink problems and at the discretion of the referee.  For penalties assessed during running time, the clock will stop only so to enter the penalty on the clock and once entered, the clock will resume running.

Overtime/Tie Breaker

Squirt C  Round Robin Play:

There will be no overtime for Squirts during round robin play.

Squirt Seeding and Tie Breaking procedures for teams after round robin play:

(1)    Seeding will be determined by Round Robin Play (Win=2 Points/Tie=1 Point/Loss = 0 Points)

(2)    Head to Head competition.

(3)    Goal Differential

(4)    Goals Allowed

(5)    Goals Scored

(6)    Team with the Least Total Penalty Minutes Assessed

(7)    Coin Toss

In a case where a tie involves more than two teams, head to head tie breaker will not be used. The tie breaking procedures, beginning with goal differential, shall be used in succession until the position of the 1st team has been determined.  The remaining tied teams will continue the tie breaking procedure with the next procedure listed.  The tie breaking procedure will not revert to any previously used procedure.  In no case will any team be credited with more than seven (7) goals difference per game for statistical purposes.

PeeWee C Bracket Play:: In the event of a tied score at the end of regulation play, the following procedure will be used to determine the winner.

1.       A 1-minute rest period will be taken after regulation play and prior to the start of the first overtime period.

2.       The 1st overtime period will consist of a 5-minute running time Sudden Death format with four on four and one goalie per team.

3.       If no goal is scored after the 1st overtime period, the 2nd overtime period will began with no rest period and will consist of a 5-minute running time Sudden Death format with three on three and one goalie per team.

4.       If no goal is scored after the 2nd overtime period, there will be a 1-minute rest period and than a 3 player shoot-out will occur, each team will select 3 players to shoot, each team will alternate shooting starting with the visiting team.

5.       If the game is still tied, a Sudden Death shoot-out will occur.  A coin toss between each team captain will occur at center ice to determine which team shoots first. Teams will alternate

Shooting; however, in sudden death, the team that scores first wins. Teams must use other players than the ones who participated in the first shoot-out, if after all players have shot, than those players can be used again.

PENALTIES:

Penalty times shall be as follows:

Minor Penalty = 1 minute 30 seconds

Major Penalty = 5 minutes

Misconduct =    10 minutes

Fighting = Automatic Game Misconduct

Penalty time will begin at the drop of the puck following the penalty assessment (with exception of running time, see above under Game Time: Running Time for rule)

Only Minor and Major penalties will be displayed on the scoreboard

Any player receiving (5) penalties during a game will be removed from that game. The player must go directly to the locker room and another player on the ice during the penalty call must serve the penalty.

Minnesota Hockey and your District rules will dictate suspensions from Game Misconducts and Match Penalties.

Fighting will not be tolerated. Referees are instructed to eject any player who drops his stick or gloves with the intent or otherwise engages in fighting, regardless of provocation. Fighting or deliberate action to injure will result in the disqualification of the offending player from the tournament at the discretion of the Referee-in-charge.
