2023-2024 CCHA Team Tryouts and Evaluation Information

This page will have all the information for all levels throughout the tryout/evaluation process. Please check back regularly for revisions. The postings for your player's assigned sessions will also be here as the tryouts progress.

The tryout schedule is created using forecasted registration numbers. Sessions may be combined, shortened or extended based on the number of players who actually register for a given level. Accordingly, it’s important to check the tryout schedule early and often.

Note: Tryouts across upper levels (Squirts/10U and above) will be closed this year. No parents or family members are able to observe.

Tryout Uniform and Equipment Restrictions

At check-in, each player will be issued a numbered tryout pinny(s) that must be worn with the front and back numbers exposed. Beneath the Pinny.  Keep these pinny(s) through out tryouts and return only after the last session and skate is complete.

Neck guards and mouth guards must be worn for all tryout sessions.

  • All players must wear a solid color jersey in the CCHA colors (black, Vegas gold, yellow gold, purple or white).
  • No team or player names should be visible on the jersey.
  • Either CCHA-issued socks from a prior season or socks in a solid CCHA color (see above) must be worn.
  • All non-CCHA stickers should be removed from helmets, and any names taped on the helmet.
  • All equipment (helmets and gloves) must be black in color

Player Tryout Eligibility

  1. Players account must be current with no outstanding fees and in good standing.
  2. Player MUST be registered, with a minimum of one payment completed.
  3. Volunteer check for player/family needs to be on file or turned in on day of first tryout.

Skills/Drills

These drills are a guide to what the players will be asked to perform.  Pending circumstances, some may be modified or not performed due to the discretion of the tryout committee.  Hockey is not played in a sterile environment and evaluators can discern between a bad bounce, poor pass to receive, and different abilities competing.  Players will have the opportunity to show their individual skill in addition to their ability to handle adverse situations or moments that happen every time in game like situations.
